$7M Raised, A New Phase of Development Begins

intheNews

May 27, 2014

We are proud to share the news today that our studio has entered the next phase of development on our upcoming project and has raised an additional $7 million in funding. We are happy to partner with Capital Today and a team of other investors who share our vision in making meaningful interactive experiences that inspire, connect, and emotionally touch the hearts of players around the world.

With this new investment, our studio is able to scale up development efforts to focus on making the best game possible in the same spirit as flOw, Flower, and Journey. Weโ€™ll also begin laying the infrastructure to self-publish, market, and distribute on our own terms for this next project and beyond.

Since finishing Journey, the team has been hard at work to make an emotionally engaging experience centered around human connections for players of all ages and backgrounds. Weโ€™re eager to share more information with everyone as we get further into development. Until then, a big thanks to everyone for your patience and ongoing support.

Flower was so important to me at the time… you don’t know how thankful I am for this piece of art. Then came Journey, an incredible experience where muted strangers help each other finding secrets, and talk about this wordless storytelling. I love your games because they’re so much more than games ^^ I can’t wait to see the next one.

Fantastic! I have no doubt that you guys will create something incredible and touching to many who interact with your video games. Like the comments before me, Flower and Journey were a huge inspiration to me and I cannot wait for what lies ahead. You guys are incredible, and each one of you deserves every bit of credit for your amazing achievement. Good luck and I look forward to the reveal!

This is great news. The entire team deserve every cent they earn and the studio as a whole deserves every bit of success.

Your titles have touched many, and I’m proud to say I’ve been a fan since flOw arrived on my PS3 back in 2006. Of course, Journey has to be my favourite.

Looking forward to my next “Journey” from TGC!

I’m so ecstatic to hear this news. Flower really helped me through a rough time in my life. Until then I didn’t even know a video game could make me feel like that. I know this may sound weird, but I learned a little about myself because of that game and to this day I’m a better person from it. I know that whatever you guys do next will be amazing. Good luck !! <3333

I still fire up Journey as a touchstone “place to go” where I can interact with strangers from around the world, free of the confines of gender, language, even time… it’s a centre of calm in my daily maelstrom (and I’m a 48 year old male!)
I am disappointed to hear it’s unlikely Journey will ever come to PS4 (the console I’m putting off buying til the inevitable bundles that should appear with Assassins Creed: Unity this November), but perhaps this new and much-anticipated exoerience will soften the loss…

P.S. You guys really are missing out on some merchandising dollars for Journey stuff – let’s just say that if there were good-quality business neckties, usefully-warm actual scarves, or other stuff like ponchos or cushion-covers – themed for either red or white-coats – my response would definitely be: just take my money!!

I just played and finished Journey tonight. I was blown away. And I am still depressed it finished. What an incredible story. What an incredible interaction with another player. Before the last scene, the other player drew a heart in the snow and I’m sure we were both smiling and laughing. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

I also played all of your minigames multiple times, I beat Flower, played flOw for about 3 hours a day for a week or so, and I beat Journey 7 times, got the white robe, achieved all the achievements, and spread word about this game to all of my friends for a whole year. I am extremely pleased about everything that you’ve done with your company… all the hearts and minds you’ve touched, lives you’ve changed. Very well done.

Also…. I need a new scarf for when it gets cold. Got any partners in mind? ๐Ÿ˜‰

How amazing that you guys came up with such a beautiful game, you have actually managed to make a 40 year old fart like me unexpectedly cry when I reached the end… I loved every aspect of the game, especially the beautiful graphics and details which together with the amazing music created an incredible atmosphere. The unusual anonymous coop-concept that forces/enables players to communicate beyond language barriers and cooperate positively without prejudice is what made this game my all time favourite. In short, this game brings out the best in people and helps you restore your faith in humanity a bit… ๐Ÿ™‚
I could go on and on with what I love about this game, but you guys simply nailed it with Journey and I can’t wait for the next game to arrive.
