TGC Spreads Across the World as John goes to Spain and Kellee Goes to Tokyo

Posted by Kellee on September 17th, 2007

By the end of this week, thatgamecompany will actually be represented on three separate continents, as John and I take off in opposite directions to represent TGC at three different shows.
Tokyo
The first will be me at the Tokyo Game Show. Last year flOw was on the floor, but since everyone was busy “finishing” up production (we still thought we would make it for launch at that time!), we didn't actually get to represent. So although TGC won't have any interactive demos this year, I'll be going to check out what we missed, and to hang out with our friend Jonathan Mak , whose upcoming PSN game “Everyday Shooter” WILL be on the floor(which is sooooo kick ass).

Gijon, Spain
Shortly after TGS opens, so does the “GameWorld Expansion Pack:Playware” show in Gijon, Spain. A collaboration between Ars Elctronica, The Museum for the Moving Image, and the LABoral Center of Art and Industrial Creation, “GameWorld” was a show that ran in March and explored the art of games an interactive media, and featured flOw and flOw PS3. “Expansion Pack: Playware” is an extension of the highly successful initial run, as well as an additional opportunity for the artists to go to Gijon, Spain, and here is the synopsis:

Playware explores the intersections of art,
games, play, and technology. The digital artworks and artistic games
shown in Playware explore play and games as a metaphor for social
relationships, human interaction, and as engines of creative and
technological inquiry. Highly accessible and engaging to a wide range of
audiences, the interactive digital works in Playware explore games as
playful examination within a system, and presents audiences with new
interfaces for human-to-human and group interaction.

and back to Tokyo again
And finally, I will be staying in Tokyo for what was actually the initial reason for my trip there – the Digital Games Research Association's International Conference, “Situated Play.” “flOw” will be presented as part of a panel session entitled “Games Without Genres,” which was organized by Celia Pearce and Tracy Fullerton, among others.

If you are going to also be at any of the above shows, please drop us a line, we'd love to meet you!

"But you never know with Sony."
LQTM!
"We currently have no plans to drop the price of the PS3." (a couple days before E3)
"We are not currently working on an upgraded PSP." (July)
"We currently don't have any plans to make a rumble enabled PS3 controller." (August)

The next thing Sony is going to say is that TGC isn't working on another game, LQTM.

Well, John and Kellee, I hope that both of you have a lot of fun in Spain and Japan! (Filled with anger and jealousy…) LQTM

I'm also too poor to go anywhere, but my dad is selling all of our cows, so we are going to go on a cruise, finish the payments on the house, and buy an HDTV!

Cows = Minnesota

Just got back from GameWorld. It was great! The gallery is well put together, and the games they have there seem like a really good set to get non-gamers curious about modern games.

If you guys ever, you know, end up in Gijon, Spain for any reason, you should check it out.
