Journey Soundtrack Now Available
Posted by Aaron on April 11th, 2012
The Journey Original Soundtrack, composed by Austin Wintory, is now available worldwide on iTunes, and is making its way to the various PlayStation Stores as we speak! Or as I write this message and you read it. And possibly it will be up everywhere by the… Anyways, it’s available for US$5, 750 Yen, 4.99 Pounds, and in other currencies throughout the world! Journey was the 29th most downloaded album on iTunes yesterday! That’s huge news for a soundtrack to an exclusive PlayStation 3 game! Austin Wintory is truly a great composer! Congrats, Austin!
To buy the soundtrack on the PlayStation Store, just turn on your PlayStation 3, find the “Search” button on the top-right corner of the screen, and search for “Journey soundtrack.” It will pop up right away, and you can quickly get to listening to the soundtrack in
320 256 kbps MP3s!
Or, if you prefer to listen to it in 256 kbps MP3s, or AACs, (whatever iTunes has), then here’s the iTunes link:
If you’ve downloaded the soundtrack on iTunes or the PS Store, what do you think? Or are you going to wait until the CD release of the soundtrack?
Even though, if I remember correctly, other albums on the PS Store have been in 320 kbps MP3s, it appears as if the Journey soundtrack isn’t 320 kbps on the PS Store, but 256 kbps…

I am going to wait for the hard copy of it!
April 11th, 2012 at 8:36 am
Obviously I wait for the Limited Edition copy, I hate to buy digital music, I want to have the physical copy :].
April 11th, 2012 at 8:48 am
I’ll wait for the CD, too. Any informations on where to get it? Will it be available via amazon for example?
April 11th, 2012 at 10:29 am
Can’t you host it somewhere to download where we can just pay you via paypal? I don’t trust my PS3 for a music library, and avoid iTunes like the plague because I’m a luddite.
April 11th, 2012 at 10:36 am
This is music deserving of a vinyl release. If Thatgamecompany were to start a kickstarter to have it pressed I’m sure it would reach the goal and exceed it. (hint)
April 11th, 2012 at 10:54 am
Por supuesto que esperare al lanzamiento en Fisico…tener en CD y en mis manos esta joya sera de lo mejor!!!
April 11th, 2012 at 11:04 am
The PlayStation store version is 256 kbps
April 11th, 2012 at 11:06 am
This deserves a double purchase. Buying it on PSN to tide me over for now. When the CD comes out, I’ll get that too.
April 11th, 2012 at 12:17 pm
Yep. Buying the PSN one now because it’s so cheap and then buying the hard copy to listen to in my car. Life’ll be good.
April 11th, 2012 at 12:34 pm
I avoid iTunes and don’t want it to be ONLY on my PS3, so I’m waiting for the CD version so I can listen to it on my MP3 player and in my car. Thanks!
April 11th, 2012 at 1:47 pm
Please release it on Bandcamp. kthxbye
April 11th, 2012 at 2:05 pm
I bought it on Itunes, but I am also going to buy the CD too. I want to give my full support to this game. It’s one of my favorites of all time.
April 11th, 2012 at 2:20 pm
Having a hard copy is vital. Need the CD to ease up driving. Congratz to Austin
April 11th, 2012 at 3:53 pm
Well, I wanted to buy it in the store, so I went to the store to buy a PSN Card, but they only had a €50,- one. Which I didn’t really want to buy, since had already bought one recently and stuff. I did buy a used copy of Mirror’s Edge though ^^
Anyways, I think I’ll wait for the CD. Although I really can’t wait to listen to this amazing soundtrack!
April 11th, 2012 at 4:30 pm
Waiting for the hard copy, it will definitely be a day one preorder. We need a date!
April 11th, 2012 at 4:55 pm
When will it be available in other iTunes stores? I live in Brazil and it is not available here.
April 11th, 2012 at 7:04 pm
I will wait for the limited cd ~ I hope it will be avaible in germany too
April 12th, 2012 at 1:42 am
Amazing sound track one of the best game score’s I have heard in a long while. Truly moving, I purchased it on PSN then transferred it to my computer, I plan to buy the hard copy as well
April 12th, 2012 at 3:08 am
I loved Journey and its soundtrack. But why releasing it (only) on iTunes? Because I dislike both Windows and Apple I would have preferred a Bandcamp release. Will buy the PSN version nevertheless…
April 12th, 2012 at 4:55 am
Any chance of a bandcamp edition? I don’t really like buying music o iTunes
April 12th, 2012 at 5:58 am
I’m going to wait for the CD release. The soundtrack was amazing!!!
April 12th, 2012 at 6:09 am
Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter feeds to see when the CD version comes out.
April 12th, 2012 at 6:12 am
@Gabriel, Gudfrodr, Krista, Ross Williams, Swante, David Amador:
The soundtrack is released only on the PS3 and iTunes because Sony wanted it that way. We don’t have any control over what Sony decides to do with their Intellectual Property.
And the PS Store’s version doesn’t have DRM, so you can transfer it to your cell phone, MP3 player, computer, etc.

Thanks for the reply. Since I am a “Facebook-Fan” of your account, I will get the information straight away. Looking forward to it – great service.

By the way: Is it yet to be told, what “limited” in “limited CD Version” exactly means? How many copies are you planning to produce of it? Will I have to corrupt some store employee in order to get one? )
April 12th, 2012 at 9:07 am
Unavailable in the chilean iTunes store!
please make it available in all the iTunes stores, USA and Europe are not the whole world!!!!
April 12th, 2012 at 9:35 am
I bought the iTunes version yesterday and I’m eagerly awaiting the cd release to purchase that also. Will you guys have any merch from the game coming out in the future such as posters, t-shirts, etc? I loved the game and I want to support it in every way possible!
April 12th, 2012 at 5:38 pm
i want the hard copy when does it come it? i might get the digital from PSN today… hopefully the CD has some bonus tracks or remixes lol…
April 13th, 2012 at 7:44 am
I’d love to buy the soundtrack on a good digital music platform like Amazon (at least, in my mind, it’s much better than PSN and iTunes).
April 13th, 2012 at 11:55 am
Worth every penny! The initial release had some quirks (it was $10 instead of $5, and all of the track titles ended in a “(1)”), but now all is well!
Hey everyone, btw, Austin is composing the music for the upcoming game “Banner Saga”, which is now raising support on Kickstarter. If you support it at the $25 mark, you get his soundtrack!
April 14th, 2012 at 10:15 am
J’espère que en france on pourra aussi réserver cette BO!
Sur le PSN en effet la qualité n’est pas génial, dommage… Vivement le CD ^^
I hope that in France we can also reserve this BO! On the PSN indeed the quality is not brilliant, it’s a pity… Deeply the CD ^^
April 15th, 2012 at 9:08 am
I don’t like Itunes. I really hope there is going to be a CD version!
April 15th, 2012 at 5:55 pm
Glad to see Journey soundtrack doing well on iTunes – it deserves it! And for $5 it is a pure bargain. I think is one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard – and I mostly listen to soundtracks instead of other music so that says someting..
Especially “I Was Born For This” It is just perfect for the emotions brought forward by the game. Just listening to it is a worthy reward for completing the most gratifying entertainment experience I have ever had in any games or movies. Probably the most beutiful and haunting song I have ever heard. It is just epic!
Also ‘Atonement’, ‘Reclamation’, ‘Apotheosis’ have been replayed countless times the last days after downloading the album..
It is a powerful emotional soundtrack – my appreciation to Austin Wintory, Lisbeth Scott, the producers and musicians!
April 15th, 2012 at 9:53 pm
I hope they make Journey Pt 2 as all the cityscapes you cannot get are worth a new game at least. Love the Soundtrack and yes it is an absolute bargain as was the ‘Flower” Soundtrack. Love this game immensely. Keep the good work up and I will keep buying.
April 16th, 2012 at 3:01 am
I’m holding out for the CD release, unless someone can convince Austin to release it on bandcamp (as suggested above) in some proper audio formats
April 17th, 2012 at 11:08 am
I have purchased the iTunes album and now I’m waiting to hear about the CD. I really want to get my hands on a physical copy of the songs!
April 18th, 2012 at 6:43 am
Writing from Italy … and i’ll wait the Limited Edition CD, please do it a good cover art and a full colored booklet with many pages fot the hard copy.
Journey is a masterpiece and i’d like to have a physical version of the game on disc, if not possible … at least the soundtrack.
please made a good packaging worthy of the game.
April 19th, 2012 at 8:20 am
Do you have a release date for the CD?
April 19th, 2012 at 4:09 pm
I will be waiting for the CD release. I avoid itunes. I want the highest quality available, and mp3 just wont cut it for a soundtrack this gorgeous! I hope we get a CD release soon, and that it’s not TOO limited, because I know I will be buying my friends and family copies as well!
April 21st, 2012 at 9:26 am
I bought the soundtrack on PS store, and will be buying the Limited Edition hard coppy as well, just the word “Limited” makes me a little nervous (!!).
I agree that this music deserves the vinyl release, think of it guys, seriously, the game and the music is becomming to be the cult-art-piece, the generation break through…I am not sure you are aware of it guys. Make the high grade Vinyl release, and it will pay back, no doubt… I am going to buy it. Put the voting on your website, the preorder, whatever, and you will see
April 21st, 2012 at 9:27 am
I am serious )
April 22nd, 2012 at 2:12 pm
Just bought on PSN the OST and GOD…. this is just too much! We really should encourage the creator of this game and Austin Wintori as well. The music is the soul of a videogame and the graphic is vessel, and Journey pierce the mind with both of them. If Thatgamecompagny continue on is way to create similar yet different games, always with the same goal to deliver something more than just a game, something sensible and powerful, they’re gonna reach the sky really fast. Congratz for Journey! Piece of real art !
April 24th, 2012 at 10:44 pm
Will there be a CD release? I would buy a digital release if it was available on Bandcamp… I prefer lossless versions.
April 29th, 2012 at 11:05 am
Please make available for mp3 download from something other than iTunes. I refuse to have that crap software on any of my computers. I would buy from the psn store if it were easy to then get on my phone.
May 3rd, 2012 at 10:37 am
Any word on that physical copy?
May 4th, 2012 at 8:52 pm
Will the soundtrack be released on Taiwan’s PSN store? I’m veryyy eager to buy it…
May 31st, 2012 at 8:18 pm
Definitely going to wait for the hard copy. I love this soundtrack!
June 5th, 2012 at 12:47 am
CD for sure!
game and music are masterpiece
June 20th, 2012 at 7:39 pm
Will definitely be getting the CD! I love all of your games, but something about Journey just blows me away. Will be keeping my eyes peeled!
June 26th, 2012 at 3:07 pm
ITunes & PS3 are too limiting when it comes to the kinds of devices I can play it on. I want it in my car and available where I want it! Please let me know when the CD is available – and don’t make it such a “limited” release! Austin deserves the income.
June 27th, 2012 at 7:43 am
I’ll be waiting for the CD release. I definitely want it to be available especially in my car!
July 14th, 2012 at 8:44 am
Looks like the Collectors Edition will be released in August, I guess this will include the OST?
Also on Amazon UK?
Also, please release on Bandcamp/7Digital
July 20th, 2012 at 2:27 am
The soundtrack almost certainly won’t be on Bandcamp or 7Digital, as Sony owns the music. Seeing as how the CD’s being released by Sumthing Else, it might end up on other stores.
August 22nd, 2012 at 4:14 am
It’s a shame… still no word on the CD. Amazon’s page has now been updated to simply unavailable. For me, it doesn’t have to be a cd, but I would like to be able to get it in some kind of lossless format with a higher bit rate. It’s beautiful music, why not let people enjoy it as much as possible?
August 23rd, 2012 at 11:52 am
Please, please, please put this up in the Google Play store. Bring yourself and this AMAZING music to the thousands of people who don’t own an iPhone, nor want to use iTunes.
November 30th, 2012 at 12:37 pm
Simply astounding soundtrack to an amazing game.
One can begin to wonder how thatgamecompany can top this crowning jewel. But I have my hopes up and will eagerly await their next game! <3
February 6th, 2013 at 6:22 pm
THIS SERIOUSLY NEEDS A VINYL RELEASE! This is more than just a beautiful videogames’ soundtrack, this is a MASTERPIECE, that is more than deserving of a vinyl pressing. WE NEED IT!
March 10th, 2013 at 9:23 pm
I agree with Alain, a vinyl release? Id drop fantastic money on that
June 28th, 2013 at 5:16 am
Great game, awesome music. Waiting for a VINYL release…
July 19th, 2013 at 11:05 am
Been waiting forever, and the Journey soundtrack is still not available in the South African iTunes store. Any idea when it will be coming?
July 22nd, 2013 at 12:01 am
Sorry, but we don’t know. All of that is up to Sony, so there’s nothing we can do.
Austin Wintory has the album up on Bandcamp now, but I’m pretty sure that I’ve heard that it has to exclude SA as well.
If you can’t buy it anywhere, the only thing you can do is pirate it.
September 22nd, 2013 at 7:29 pm
October 30th, 2013 at 1:42 am
Also waiting for a VINYL release.
November 15th, 2013 at 12:54 pm
+1 on the vinyl release. Do it in a beautiful deluxe 2xLP gatefold and give this soundtrack the release it deserves
January 23rd, 2014 at 6:11 am
PUHLEAEAEAZE add this to spotify. i beg of you
January 27th, 2014 at 8:35 am
Sony owns the game and all associated assets, so the decision is up to them.
At this current point in time, no other Sony-owned game soundtracks are on Spotify, so it seems unlikely for the Journey soundtrack to appear on the site in the near future.
November 25th, 2014 at 5:36 pm
Also in for that vinyl release!
April 22nd, 2015 at 7:06 pm
Is there any way we can bring this wonderful soundtrack to Google Play music store? I’d love to purchase the soundtrack for my Android smart phone, and do not want to limit myself to iTunes.
April 29th, 2015 at 4:08 am
That’s up to Sony. Currently, all the released soundtracks for Sony’s games are only available digitally on iTunes. That is, except for Journey also being on the Bandcamp page of the composer, Austin Wintory.
You can download it in FLAC/MP3/OGG here (you can also stream it with Bandcamp’s streaming app after purchase):
