Journey Collector’s Edition Coming to Stores August 28
Posted by Sunni on June 25th, 2012
Journey, a project very dear to our hearts, represents thatgamecompany’s efforts to deliver a unique emotional experience to players online. As such, in conjunction with Santa Monica Studio, it is an honor to announce the Journey Collector’s Edition, launching for the PlayStation 3. This is our first disc-based release, and will be available at retail outlets across North America for $29.99 on August 28.
From the simplicity of flOw, to the poetry of Flower, to the awe of Journey, this special Blu-ray bundle features thatgamecompany’s three award-winning PlayStation Network-exclusive titles, paired with exclusive new content and previously released digital content.

The complete set of bonus flOw, Flower, and Journey content includes:
+30-minute behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Journey
+Creator Commentary play-throughs of all three games
+Three exclusive mini-games from thatgamecompany
+Concept art and screenshot galleries for all three games
+Original soundtracks for all three games
+PS3 dynamic themes and wallpapers
+PSN avatars including 8 exclusive new Journey avatars never released before
+Official game trailers and developer diary videos
+Reversible cover art
+One month trial subscription of PlayStation Plus
We are particularly excited about the Creator Commentary play-throughs of all three games, because we get to share with players insights about flOw, Flower, and Journey straight from the minds of the designers, artists, engineers and composers who worked together to make these games so special.

Another great feature included on the disc are the three exclusive mini-games born out of a thatgamecompany tradition: the 24hr Game Jam. As the name implies, each game was created by us, start to finish, in 24 hours. So for the first time ever, thatgamecompany’s mini-games, Gravediggers, Duke War!!, and Nostril Shot, will be available to play outside of our studio.
We share these mini-games as a “thank you” to our players for supporting us over the years. In case the names didn’t already give it away, these mini-games showcase thatgamecompany’s lighter side with madcap competitive multiplayer action. We hope you sincerely enjoy their silliness as much as we have.
In the meantime, please check out the official trailer for thatgamecompany’s first Blu-ray disc release, hitting stores on August 28 and currently available for pre-order on Amazon and GameStop.

I’ll be eagerly awaiting the UK release date as this is a MUST buy!! I’m sooooo happy to see these games getting a physical release!
June 25th, 2012 at 7:05 am
Amazing! I haven’t played any of these games, but I’ve been wanting to for a long time. Guess this is the great opportunity I’ve been waiting for!
Now to save up some dough…
June 25th, 2012 at 7:08 am
I played demos of each title, would rather own the physical copy. I love it!
June 25th, 2012 at 7:09 am
The commentary and documentary are worth this alone, I cannot wait for this to be released in the UK!
All three are some of the very few titles I am completely willing to pay for twice. This news made my day
June 25th, 2012 at 7:18 am
I have bought and played every game on my ps3. And I will buy the disc to support the good work of thatgamecompany!
June 25th, 2012 at 7:20 am
Can’t wait for this to release in the UK. I’ve been waiting to buy Journey for so long and now I can buy all 3 of ThatGameCompany’s games just after my birthday and do a playthrough of all 3.
June 25th, 2012 at 7:23 am
I will pre-order this Colector Edition as soon as the pre-orders start in Spain, even if i already have the 3 games.
I was just hoping the edition came with an artbook and the 3 Soundtracks in a CD, and not just as a download.
June 25th, 2012 at 7:28 am
Even that I have flower and journey, I think I will buy the UK-Version. But I really really want the journey-soundtrack as a CD ;_; I’m waiting….
June 25th, 2012 at 7:39 am
Thank you so much ;__;
June 25th, 2012 at 7:54 am
thatgamecompany on a disc? Very ready.
June 25th, 2012 at 8:04 am
Will those mini-games be made available to your supporters who purchased and downloaded your games from the PSN on day-one?
June 25th, 2012 at 8:15 am
already own all games on PSN, gonna pre order this regardless
June 25th, 2012 at 8:26 am
Will it include a platinum trophy to unlock?
June 25th, 2012 at 8:29 am
I own all 3 games so there’s no reason for me to buy the physical copy unless a platinum trophy is included
June 25th, 2012 at 8:41 am
An excellent edition, I look forward to the UK release.
June 25th, 2012 at 9:09 am
all I can say is “I WANT IT”…
June 25th, 2012 at 9:14 am
Anyone else notice the ‘Free PS Plus Membership’ on the cover, but not in the article? Interesting…
June 25th, 2012 at 9:46 am
@ David Holden The PS+ membership is mentioned in the trailer as well as on the box art. Probably just forgot to list it in the article.
June 25th, 2012 at 9:56 am
Eagerly awaiting the European release date! Thank you!
June 25th, 2012 at 9:59 am
Please make sure the Canadian release also has the reversible cover art as very often they neglect those with our bilingual cover printings.
I am double-dipping for this physical release for sure.
June 25th, 2012 at 11:27 am
Awesome, I hope that it is also heading to the UK? Have all three but would love the disc as well, if only for the extras and behind the scenes goodies. It’s also great to see the games have done so well to get a disc release. Congrats TGC!
June 25th, 2012 at 11:31 am
@Michael, Dave, Will, Knochenherz, Ben, NightWind, Liz:
There is currently no European release scheduled for the Journey Collector’s Edition.
June 25th, 2012 at 11:35 am
@Charles:
No, they won’t be available on anything other than the disc-release.
The GameJam games wouldn’t not pass Quality Assurance. The only reason they are on the disc is because the rules were bent for this release.
June 25th, 2012 at 11:51 am
Oh this sounds so wonderful I absolutely cannot wait to get this collection. Most recently I picked up Journey and even though I have 100% of everything I will be pre-ordering this amazing collection shortly. Thank you very much and best of luck on your first disc release!!
June 25th, 2012 at 11:55 am
This sounds awesome! This is definitely a day-one buy. Can we still expect a CD release of the soundtrack, and potentially an artbook?
June 25th, 2012 at 12:56 pm
Why no European release?
We want it just as bad.
June 25th, 2012 at 1:19 pm
As much as it pains me to say, because I do love your game: The times when Europe can be ran over by the industry is over, it might have worked during the 80′s and 90′s but it will no longer fly. If this does not see release in Europe, and withing a reasonable time fram, you will have lost a customer.
June 25th, 2012 at 1:42 pm
We would like everyone interested in the bundle to have access just as much as you do!
It’s up to SCEE to release the title in your country… you should let your voice be heard with them. If there appears to be enough demand, perhaps they will move forward with this.
Otherwise, the discs appear to be region-free, so if you can get your hands on one, should play on your PS3 no problem.
June 25th, 2012 at 2:44 pm
I’m very disapointed that you are not planning to release this in Europe. America seems to only be the place that is considered for things these days. There are other people and places across this planet and it always hurts me when those people and places aren’t considered. This product should be released elsewhere by default, rather than the consumers having to take it upon themselves to try and get a product to be released in their region. Very disapointed.
June 25th, 2012 at 4:44 pm
I cannot even explain to you guys how much I love you right now. I HATE dealing with the DRM that comes with digital downloads, but I’m going to preorder the hell out of this collection.
June 25th, 2012 at 7:53 pm
With the great demand for your collection in Europe, I can’t believe that you are not doing more to get SCEE to release it in Europe.
June 25th, 2012 at 9:53 pm
looks like dream
June 26th, 2012 at 1:53 am
Looks fantastic! I just wish Sony would accept that I’m not going to buy a PS3 just for your games, and release them from platform exclusivity so they can reach more players.
I remember playing cloud and the first incarnation of fl0w in my browser and loving them. Looking forward to your first multiplatform release, tgc!
June 26th, 2012 at 6:03 am
“We share these mini-games as a “thank you” to our players for supporting us over the years”
This hurts the most. People all over the planet have been supporting your products over the years (myself included) and they are not going to receive this gratitude that they deserve. Let’s be honest it’s up to you to decide to release a product over the different regions and you obviously have no intention or desire to do so. I’m surprised you guys aren’t making more of an effort to release your product elsewhere. You’ve disappointed alot of your own user-base with your actions surrounding the release of this product and undeservedly so.
June 26th, 2012 at 7:15 am
According to you guys the reason you aren’t releasing it in Europe is because of the costs needed to translate the content to all of the different languages. You could at least then release it in the United Kingdom as we do speak English here.
June 26th, 2012 at 8:19 am
@Nick:
There is absolutely no way that we can get Sony Europe to release the pack in Europe. The only way to get it released is for the people, like you, to tell Sony that you want to buy it.
We’re not the customer, you are, and that’s the only thing Sony will listen to.
June 26th, 2012 at 8:20 am
@Paul:
We don’t know why Sony doesn’t release it in English speaking countries, but it seems like just releasing it in them would still be too cost prohibitive. It looks like it’s an “all or nothing” game, where all the time and effort spent would not be made up with sales in a couple countries.
June 26th, 2012 at 11:49 am
Too bad that I cannot play it on PC or Xbox =(
I hate exclusivity contracts with a passion.
June 26th, 2012 at 4:00 pm
I’ve played Journey on so many occasions, and there are no words known to me that can explain how much it changed me for the better. It unravelled so many knots of doubt and long-suppressed sadness in my life that I wasn’t able to express; not even to myself. From the deepest recesses of my heart – thank you, thank you, thank you.
June 26th, 2012 at 6:27 pm
Even though I have all three games, I’ll still buy this! But, does flOw contain the expansion pack?
June 26th, 2012 at 10:50 pm
You guys should have called it “thatgamecollection”.
June 27th, 2012 at 5:28 am
Congratulations! Journey is the most amazing game I’ve played this year. It clearly deserves to be sell in box. I’ll get it for sure, even if I have to order it in US (France, here
).
June 27th, 2012 at 6:36 am
That’s really awesome! ![]()
I hope the SCEE will re-think about selling it in the EU. I’d love to buy it from the US as well, though. I love collectiong games and books in their original language.
I have a question- is there any site you could direct me to pre-order it from the US?
thank you kindly!
June 27th, 2012 at 7:11 am
For anyone from Europe there is a petition to try and get this released in Europe. Here is the link:
I’d be eternally grateful if you could please sign this petition, even if you aren’t from Europe. We want this product as much as anyone else and it isn’t fair. Pretty please sign it.
Thankyou.
June 27th, 2012 at 7:24 am
Paul I’ve signed it! I’ve seen it on the main page of this site few time ago ^^
Even though I’d love to buy it in it original language, I’d also like to collect my Italian version of the pack
June 27th, 2012 at 12:06 pm
Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe! Bring it to Europe!
And don’t give me conflicting information. People have been asking about the bundle on this week’s PSN Store Update blog post and have been told to go ask thatgamecompany. Don’t tell us to go ask SCEE, because we already have.
I already own all three games digitally and I still want to give You more of my money. Please! Let me give You my money!
June 29th, 2012 at 6:49 am
Sold.
June 29th, 2012 at 11:58 pm
Two things :
1. Your games are changing the lives of people in a positive way. I pray that God always blesses your company for that!!!
2. I have been calling Sony once a week for the past month, in an attempt to get them to FIX THE EXPANSION PACK for flOw. It does not work for those who already own flOw or downloaded the demo…it ONLY works for those who buy the “Full Game+ (Expansion Pack). Half of the time Sony tells me that it is the PSN’s fault and they are working on the problem (even though this problem has been going on since the pack’s release, a long time ago!) and the other times they tell me to contact thatgamecompany because it’s your fault. PLEASE tell me that the flOw on this Collector’s Edition is the FULL GAME…..
July 2nd, 2012 at 5:42 am
This is excellent news. Not being in any close proximity to America though I will have to import..thank god for region free.
I only need to ask whether the soundtrack and arts is physical as opposed to downloadable. Soundtrack CDs and an actual book would be so cool.
July 2nd, 2012 at 2:58 pm
Update: Links to pre-order on Amazon and Gamestop have been added to the announcement. The one month trial subscription of PlayStation Plus has also been added to the list of included content.
July 3rd, 2012 at 1:13 pm
Why are so many people under the bizarre impression that thatgamecompany holds unrestricted rights to Flow, Flower and Journey? Do some of you really not understand why the games flash Sony Computer Entertainment in the start credits, or the mockup of the box includes a Sony Computer Entertainment logo?
Newsflash: thatgamecompany produced these three games under contract FOR SONY. As is generally the case, it is SONY that holds the distribution rights, not the studio which was paid to make the game.
Thatgamecompany can’t just do a European release on their own anyways. Why? Because they would have to come up with an entire fabrication and logistical network on another CONTINENT.
And why isn’t Sony apparently using its own fabrication and logistical resources to do a European release? Because a bunch of accountants in SCEE ran some projections and decided that the market didn’t exist to make this release worth their resources.
So, yeah. Everyone coming here with the colossal sense of entitlement and whining at thatgamecompany, which has no ability to instigate a physical release, should stop and engage their critical thinking skills.
July 3rd, 2012 at 11:21 pm
Is it worth buying this if I already own Journey but not Flow and Flower?
July 4th, 2012 at 6:52 am
“our mission:
Create timeless entertainment that make positive change to the human psyche worldwide.”
Mission failed. Please tell SCEE to consider releasing this product in Europe and make sure they listen and acknowledge what you are suggesting. I understand that there’s nothing you can do, but you can at least do that. Thankyou.
July 7th, 2012 at 1:19 pm
Am fairly new to PS3 games in general and especially these awesome products from TGC – so forgive my ignorance. The company’s blurb on the Collector’s Edition indicates that it is “launching for the PS3…[via] this special Blu-ray bundle…” So, my ignorant question is this: are the 3 games on this disc – Journey, Flower, and Flow – full playable versions on PS3, OR, is this Blu-ray disc a collection of viewing content about these games which can NOT be played?? Thanks in advance.
July 7th, 2012 at 2:55 pm
@Ryan Revolution: The solution to the flOw expansion pack can be found here: https://getsatisfaction.com/thatgamecompany/topics/flow_expansion_pack_not_working
@Carl: the Journey Collector’s Edition comes with a lot of supplementary content for Journey, Flower, and flOw, in addition to those 3 games, and more.
@Paul: We have relayed this message to SCEE.
@T Morison: welcome and glad you found us! The Blu-ray disc contains all three games for you to play on the PS3.
July 9th, 2012 at 12:16 pm
My son got me into Journey. What an absolute delight the game is. Entering a level to fine someelse there is a thrill. People playing are always so nice and usually fill of fun. It brings people togerther in an extraordinary way. thank you thatgamecompany for something different and a joy to play.
July 11th, 2012 at 2:29 am
Looks amazing, have Journey, been through it many times. Will look for the actually game disc. Question tho, the disc will not change the game I bought through PSN?
July 13th, 2012 at 5:07 pm
Oh my goodness!!! I’ve loved this company’s games since I first played flow online a while ago and I’ve recently bought Journey. Can’t wait to see this in stores!!!
July 15th, 2012 at 2:25 pm
Can these game be re-released in Stereoscopic 3D? These games are so beautiful and would look amazing on my 3D projector!
July 21st, 2012 at 7:50 am
Might just get a PS3 to play your games <3
July 27th, 2012 at 7:26 am
when will release journey for pc platform
July 27th, 2012 at 10:56 am
@gra3h4us: the disc should not affect your PSN game.
@ZarkMabala: I haven’t heard any plans for a Stereoscopic 3D version, but there are other cool Journey-related things in the works.
@aneldive: Journey is owned by Sony, and they likely won’t release it for the PC.
thanks to everyone for their excitement and enthusiasm!
July 29th, 2012 at 2:05 pm
I brought Journey when I heard about it on G4. Instanly addicted though I put it down for ~3 months. Today i just finished the game again…and I fine myself not able to stop the tears.
thank you for bringing me joy, TGC.
August 17th, 2012 at 8:07 am
If one were to import this from the US to the UK, would everything apart from the avatars and PSN+ trial work?
I’m only really asking because I’m a sucker for minigames, looks like quite the smorgasbord.
August 21st, 2012 at 7:30 am
Is there any plans for an Australian release maybe? :3 I know you guys don’t control where your fantastic games are released, but it’s gonna be a pain to buy an American PS3 to play this collection (and don’t think for a second that I won’t), so I’m hoping for an Aussie release soon
August 21st, 2012 at 10:17 am
Avaible in Brazil?
August 27th, 2012 at 11:08 am
@USSKelvin the disc is region free, so you should be able to access everything on the disc normally, I’m sure you’ll thoroughly enjoy the minigames
@Damien, we don’t have any concrete details about a release outside of North/South America yet, but they should be forthcoming shortly, and hopefully positive!
@xandao should be available in Latin America countries where are games are normally sold, we’re expecting to get the confirmed list of release countries for your region soon.
August 28th, 2012 at 3:58 pm
@Sunni any expected date?
August 30th, 2012 at 6:26 pm
Was coming here to find out where the *** EU release date is but…hmm disappointed, Sony WTF
September 1st, 2012 at 2:47 pm
I bought the collector’s edition on disc. I have been playing Flow the last day or so, and did not see the Expansion Pack on the disc to install. So about an hour ago I bought the Flow Expansion Pack from the PSN store. Unfortunately I cannot get it to install, as I get an error. Can you please advise on how I can get the expansion pack to work? Thanks!
September 4th, 2012 at 9:56 am
To supplement my own comment/question above, I called the Sony Support 1-800 yesterday. They tried to install it for me. After a few unsuccessful attempts, I was simply refunded my Flow Expansion Pack purchase. Suffice it to say that I am disappointed that the Flow Expansion Pack is not included on the collector’s edition disc & that I could not install a purchased PSN copy of the pack.
September 4th, 2012 at 11:54 am
We want this in Europe to :3
September 5th, 2012 at 3:31 pm
@xandao – although I don’t have an official date yet, I’ve heard the disc should be coming to Brazil soon.
@david still waiting to hear about an EU release, we’ll update everyone when we hear something!
@mikez I’m really, really sorry you had so much trouble and weren’t able to enjoy the flOw expansion pack like you were expecting. It’s such a disappointment to hear anything related to what we’ve done causes a player disappointment. On your behalf, and everyone in a situation similar to yours, I’ve brought this up with a representative at Sony and I’m waiting to hear more back from them about this.
@Andy we do, too. :3
September 9th, 2012 at 6:57 pm
Waiting here in Brazil!
Hopefully with a fair price
Amazing initiative!
September 10th, 2012 at 2:05 am
the flow exponsion pack well not install i tryed https://getsatisfaction.com/thatgamecompany/topics/flow_expansion_pack_not_working
uninstalled/del flow then installed with out running then went and got flow exp and it says a alter version is already installed yet i bought them both at the same times years ago hmmm help
September 10th, 2012 at 4:21 pm
@murray I have asked Sony about this issue. I will post a reply as soon as I hear back!
September 10th, 2012 at 5:26 pm
As someone who does not live somewhere with access to an internet connection, yet has been greatly interested in these games, this was a godsend.
All three are wonderful games, and I am so glad to finally have had an opportunity to play them.
September 12th, 2012 at 4:25 pm
just wanted to say: it’s already in pre-sale in Brazil
Thank very much, THATGAMECOMPANY
September 15th, 2012 at 6:30 pm
Thank you xandao!
I was very excited but unfortunately it’s too expensive here (as almost everything).
It’s $60 dollars equivalent! (simply converting from Reais to Dollar)
I wanted to know if there’s a site like amazon that could send to Brazil. It’s totally legal, and sometimes we have to pay 60% of it’s value in taxes, but as you can see it still worth…
September 17th, 2012 at 3:30 pm
@André na verdade eu penso estar até barato, considerando que vem 3 jogos e, normalmente, lançamentos chegam custando 200 reais. e a equivalencia em dolares deve ser feita considerando os impostos. fica menos de 60 dolares nos EUA com certeza
October 31st, 2012 at 10:16 pm
I am loving the games and mini games. I have heard so much about you guys and I tried flOw on your website and I was tranced. I just stumbled upon the Journey’s Collectors Edition and i was sold. Been wanting to play Journey but just didn’t want to download it off of PSN. Bought the game yesterday and I can say it was one of the best money spent on a game (or should I say games) ever and only $29.99, priceless. I love the music, art, and simplicity of the games and the sheer relaxation you get from it. Like I said, they are wonderful games to escape to when you don’t want to be playing FPS games or violent games. Also Sunni i think, up on the comments I saw that some Journey-related stuff are in the works and can you give us a hint or clue about it? Really curious. Overall just wanted to post my experience with such sense-grabbing games you guys produced! Thank you.
November 7th, 2012 at 1:07 am
EUROPE waits.
November 7th, 2012 at 10:13 am
@Tou So glad to hear you’re enjoying the Collector’s Edition! Thank you for your support. We really wanted tp put something together that players would appreciate. I’m not sure which specifically the Journey-related stuff in the works comment may have been referring to, but my guess was the impending The Art of Journey book release, which is out now and available for purchase! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0985902213/
@Vojtek I hear you! We are waiting, too!
December 4th, 2012 at 6:29 am
Never really been one to throw comments on a game…
Journey, however truly warrants my thanks to its developers! I’ve only just started playing it and I’m truly amazed by the unique story and gameplay aspects held within this little powerhouse of a game. If I have any criticisms, it’s that I was silly enough to let my wife see it and now I think I’ve lost my ps3 for the next god knows how long!
Keep it up guys and girls, another fan added to your massive list!
March 23rd, 2013 at 9:27 pm
I just picked up a physical copy of this set, and I’m looking forward to playing it, but I’ve also been scouting around and I’ve heard all this hullabaloo about how the Expansion Pack for flOw won’t install with the version on the Collector’s Edition. And as it seems that there hasn’t been much conversation about this topic within the past couple months, I just wanted to know if there’s been an update on this issue. I’d really like to be able to get 100% trophies on here without having to download the PSN Bundle for a game I’ve already bought, just to get one that’s compatible with the DLC. Thanks.
April 11th, 2013 at 4:19 pm
There hasn’t been an update on this yet and I don’t know when there will be.
May 18th, 2013 at 9:07 am
I’m about to buy the Collector’s Edition.
Is therea any info or fix for the Flow expansion pack? I really hope so! I’d like to enjoy the games completely. I heard so musch good about them!
