Journey Early Access and Pre-Order Program

Posted by on March 6th, 2012

Cross-posted here from the U.S. PlayStation Blog on behalf of Brian Dunn.

If you have been following Journey, then you’re probably as excited as I am about its release next week on March 13, as the first game in our Spring Fever event this year. The reviews so far have been fantastic, and I can’t wait to get online and experience the game online with other Journey fans.

If you caught Friday’s update from Kellee, the last line of her post about big news coming Monday probably had you wondering what sort of news might be coming. Well, earlier this morning I’m sure you saw this month’s PS Plus blog post revealing that Journey will be available this week for all PS Plus members, one week ahead of the normal release date. What’s more, this early access purchase comes with a bonus, an exclusive PS3 dynamic theme featuring some concept art from the game.

And if you’re not a Plus member, we are also launching a special pre-order program as well. You’ll be able to put your money down for the game and get hold of the same concept art dynamic theme as Plus members for doing so. Then when the game hits on March 13 during the normal Tuesday publish, just head to the store and download the game for free.

Journey Desert clouds

Watch the Blog and PS Store, because we’ll have a few more videos for Journey, an additional dynamic theme (free for Plus members) that will showcase some of the beautiful vistas in the game, and more. We’re also launching a dedicated tab for Journey on the PlayStation Facebook page where you can get an exclusive Journey PSN Avatar starting today, so head on over to check it out.

And don’t forget to head over to the Journey live dev chat page to sign up for a reminder, and come back this coming Friday at 10 AM PST to chat live with Jenova Chen (Creative Director) and Robin Hunicke (Executive Producer) from the Journey dev team.

Just one week left. Can’t wait for it. Don’t have the money for PS+ at the moment, but if I had, I would’ve definitely subscribed now.

Sorry for double post, but will there be a way of pre-ordering the game + getting the Theme as a German? I could buy it in the US-Shop, but I have know credit card and shipping over a psn-card will cost extra money. Also, if I do that, I always have to log into my US account to like redownload the game. :/

You could go the Best Buy’s website and buy a PSN card digitally. They will give you the code in about 15 minutes, and there’s no extra charge for it.

I live in Costa Rica and I do that all the time.

This game was beyond what I was expecting. It was flower that made me seriously pursue a career in gaming, and I’m half way through my first year at a Bachelor of Interactive Entertainment because of it. Journey reminds me of why I wanted to get into it in the first place, and I hope to be making games like this once I get out (or even in college). A career working with TGC would be a dream come true.

What an experience. Exploring the vastness with a random stranger, trying to communicate ideas to one another, and just experiencing it together, is an amazing feeling. This has really blown me away.

THATS the answer, I was looking for since hours. I bought Jorney and it’s the best game of my life (and I am far beyond beeing a teenager ;) ) so I wondered, where the theme is.

THANK you for clarifying this! :)

### Sorry for doubleposting. :s

No, this game is exclusive to the ps3. The developers confirmed that once more in the developers chat. But TGS from now on isnt bound to sony any more so the future games may also be released on other platforms. :)

Journey is one of the best game I’ve ever played.
However, the Facebook page looks down. Am I the only one in that case ?

Why oh whyyyyy is this wonderful masterpiece only available for ps3 owners? Don’t other plattform gamers like me (xbox360) deserve to go on a journey as well?! *puppyeyes*

Hi TGS. I praise this game Journey for such an outstanding quality, and the best downloadble game in the history so far. I love it from the first time I played it; the sands were so beautiful like gold, characters are mysterious and cute, scenery are just wonderful. I love the music, it’s haunting, it’s dramatic, and very moving. Please release a full soundtrack list in psn soon. I would love to buy them. Thank you for making such a great game. :)

I dont see how to pre-order so I can get the bonus content? Is it in the console-store or online at the PS3 website?

Comment by: Aaron

March 12th, 2012 at 6:51 pm

You can pre-order the game on the console store in North America only. Sony Europe decided against pre-ordering.

Sony owns Journey, as well as our other games, flOw and Flower, so these games won’t be on the 360, PC, or Wii.

You still have to wait until Sony updates the store in North America before you can buy it. It will most likely be available in about 4-6 hours from now.

Anybody? Any news on dynamic theme?

Comment by: Aaron

March 23rd, 2012 at 8:57 pm

The dynamic theme is available on the European PlayStation Store, but I am unsure if it will be available to anyone except for PS Plus subscribers. (It’s available to all of the subscribers, though.)

A new dynamic theme has been released in North America, and it might be available in Europe as well, but I don’t know if it will be.

@atelka & frank:
Journey won’t be released on the PC because Sony owns it. It might go on the Vita or a future Sony console, but it’s completely up to them.
