Uhm… Wow.

Posted by Kellee on January 4th, 2010

So, over the holidays the great news just kept pouring in. Not only was “Flower” noted as an exceptional downloadable game for the year, we made a few lists for just, in general, favorite game of the year. Which is amazing. With each of our games we try to prove that “downloadable” doesn’t mean “cheap” when it comes to quality of content, so it meant a lot to us that 10 months after its release, you guys still remember “Flower” fondly.

So here’s a roundup of what you might have missed:

Spike TV’s Best Independent Game (video of the acceptance speech can be seen here.)

G4’s Best of 2009: Best Soundtrack

Gamasutra’s 6th Best Game of the Year

Wall Street Journal’s Pick for the Gift Guide

AceGamez nominee for PS3 Game of the Year

Wired’s 10th Best Game of the Year

USA Today’s 4th Best Game of the Year

David Jaffe’s Best Game of the Year =)

…and last but not least….

Kellee Santiago was named  on the Ten Most Influential Women of the Decade by Kotaku!

Thanks to all of you for spreading the word on “Flower,” and making it such a hit in 2009!

Posted by Kellee on December 8th, 2009

for added rhyming, I’ll add a “wheeeee!”

Jenova on Spike TV

This week, Spike TV will be showcasing the nominees for Best Independent Game of 2009.  You can watch a short preview here. In this particular clip, Jenova shows one of our early Flower demos, and explains (hilariously) why it was thrown aside in pursuit of the game Flower eventually became.

These short clips will culminate in a 30 minute special on the nominees which will air this Thursday at 12am, 11pm CST on Spike TV.

Flower Mention in… Call of Duty Review?

Posted by Kellee on November 11th, 2009

Love the dichotomy!

“Modern Warfare 2, set five years in the future, doesn’t seem sure which film it’s trying to replicate, and hovers somewhere between Red Dawn, Black Hawk Down, and all seven seasons of 24. There’s a plot, but it’s incomprehensible.Ignorant non-gamers may scoff at the very notion of a videogame having a plot, but the medium has recently undergone an immense creative explosion. Last week, for instance, I finally got round to playing Flower, a stunningly beautiful PS3 game in which you “play” a breeze blowing petals around an impressionistic landscape. It’s abstract, powerfully touching, yet impossible to describe; it simply could not exist in any other medium.
